	MGI Pharma Initiates Drug Combination Trial of Irofulven With Cisplatin in Patients With Advanced Solid Tumors Phase 1 Dose-Escalating Trial to Evaluate Novel Combination Therapy March 19, 2002 MGI PHARMA, INC., today announced that it has initiated a Phase 1 clinical trial of irofulven, its novel anti-cancer compound, in combination with the anti-tumor agent cisplatin in patients with advanced solid tumors. The primary objective of this dose-escalating trial is to determine the maximum-tolerated dose of the two drugs when used in combination. Secondary objectives are to determine the safety, anti-tumor activity, and the pharmacokinetic profile of irofulven and cisplatin when administered in combination. It is estimated that up to 40 patients will be enrolled in this international, multi-center study. This combination treatment demonstrated a one-year survival rate of 27 percent, which is greater than that reported with gemcitabine alone in previous studies of patients with advanced pancreatic cancer (15 percent and 18 percent one-year survival rates, respectively).
