Pharma Initiates Drug Combination Trial of Irofulven With Cisplatin
in Patients With Advanced Solid Tumors MGI PHARMA, INC., today announced that it has initiated a Phase 1 clinical trial of irofulven, its novel anti-cancer compound, in combination with the anti-tumor agent cisplatin in patients with advanced solid tumors. The primary objective of this dose-escalating trial is to determine the maximum-tolerated dose of the two drugs when used in combination. Secondary objectives are to determine the safety, anti-tumor activity, and the pharmacokinetic profile of irofulven and cisplatin when administered in combination. It is estimated that up to 40 patients will be enrolled in this international, multi-center study. Both drugs will be administered on an every-other-week dosing schedule. ...full article NSC-631570

Announces Orathecin(TM) as New 'Brand Name' for Rubitecan SuperGen Inc. announced today that rubitecan, the company's oral anticancer compound that has completed enrollment in Phase III clinical testing as a treatment for pancreatic cancer, will now be called Orathecin(TM), effective immediately. ...full article New
Treatment Combination Containing Irinotecan Shows Promising Survival
Rate For Patients With Advanced Pancreatic Cancer The combination of irinotecan (also known as CPT-11, CAMPTOSAR®) and gemcitabine shows promise in treating pancreatic cancer, a disease with a very high mortality rate compared to other forms of cancer. This combination treatment demonstrated a one-year survival rate of 27 percent, which is greater than that reported with gemcitabine alone in previous studies of patients with advanced pancreatic cancer (15 percent and 18 percent one-year survival rates, respectively). This new study finding has been published in the March 2002 issue of the Journal of Clinical Oncology. ...full article SuperGen
