Dr. Markus W. Büchler
Professor Büchler is the chairman
of the Department of General, Emergency and Visceral (and transplant)
Surgery at the University of Heidelberg, Germany -- as affiliated
with the German Cancer Research Centre, the European Laboratory
of Molecular Biology and the Max Planck Institutes for Medical
Research (and Cell Biology).
After his training in general surgery and
cardiovascular surgery at the University of Berlin in the early
1980s, Professor Büchler took further surgical positions
at the University of Ulm, Germany. It was at this time that he
became particularly interested in transplant surgery and in diseases
of the gastrointestinal tract (and liver) in general, and of
the pancreas in particular. Dr. Markus Büchler most recently
was the Chairman of the Department of Visceral and Transplantation
Surgery at the University of Bern, Inselspital in Switzerland.
Professor Büchler is a member of numerous
international, European and North American professional surgical
and medical societies. He also belongs to the European Pancreatic
Club, the International Association of Pancreatology, the World
Association of Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Surgery, the American
College of Gastroenterology, the International Society for Regional
Cancer Therapy and the Collegium Internationale Chirurgiae Digestivae.
Additionally, Professor Büchler is a member of the editorial
board of the International Journal of Pancreatology, an
Associate Editor of Pancreas, the Editor of Chirurgische
Gastroenterologie, the Editor-in-Chief of Digestive Surgery,
a member of the editorial board of Swiss Surgery and a
council member of The British Journal of Surgery Society. |
