Dr. James L. Abbruzzese
Dr. James L. Abbruzzese is the Chairman
of the Department of Gastrointestinal Medical Oncology at the
University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas.
Dr. Abbruzzese holds the Annie Laurie Howard Research Distinguished
Professorship.
Actively involved in the development of
novel therapeutic agents for pancreatic and other gastrointestinal
cancers, Dr. Abbruzzese is principal investigator of a phase
I drug development grant from the National Cancer Institute.
He has recently been awarded another grant to develop techniques
to assess the impact of novel targeted therapeutic agents in
cancer patients.
Author of over 150 original articles and
book chapters, Dr. Abbruzzese has recently been appointed the
Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Pancreatology.
He serves on the editorial board of a number of prestigious journals,
including the Journal of Clinical Oncology and Clinical Cancer
Research, and also serves on the Scientific Advisory Board of
the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research.
Dr. Abbruzzese is actively involved with
both the American Association for Cancer Research and the American
Society of Clinical Oncology. He served as a Program Co-Chairman
for the 2002 Annual Meeting of the American Association of Cancer
Research, and was appointed Chairman of the GI Committee for
the Southwest Oncology Group. |
