Confronting Pancreatic Cancer

COMMENTS to the CMS

The Lorenzen Cancer Foundation has joined with the public interest law firm Washington Legal Foundation and others to urge the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (“CMS”) to terminate national reviews at issue (especially for Eloxatin, Camptosar, Bexxar and Zevalin) and clarify that the Medicare program will reimburse for “off-label” uses of these cancer medicines.

Eloxatin (oxaliplatin) in combination with gemcitabine has been utilized in the “off-label” treatment of pancreatic adenocarcinoma.

And the Pfizer agent Camptosar (as well as Eloxatin) are well represented in a number of clinical trials related to pancreatic cancer. There are examples of both of these agents in the Pancreatica clinical trials database: http://www.pancreatica.org/Search.cfm.
